More Culture and New games!

We spent the night "lock-in" style in the Marae.  After breakfast the girls spent time singing Maori songs!  It was so sweet!

This morning the girls were also given two opportunities to learn a weaving technique using flax leaves.  Most girls made flowers.

The other craft was exploring and learning ancient Maori symbolism.  Each girl sketched and painted a canvas of one or more symbols ranging from a chief to a waka (canoe).

The girls helped prepare a hangi which is a traditional Maori meal baked in the ground.  We're getting ready to unearth and enjoy in an hour or so!

We spent the afternoon learning and playing several New Zealand games- rugby included!

Tomorrow we'll leave the Maori center and take a ferry to Picton to start our South Island adventure.
