Bye Bye West Coast....

We've heard Wellington had an earthquake, but we are 900 kilometers and 13 hours away from Wellington, so we are all completely safe in the little town of Wanaka on the East Coast of the South Island.  We had a big travel day yesterday and had lots of "snack-size" hikes along the way.  We saw the Franz Josef Glacier and the Fox Glacier.  We also stopped at a few beaches to walk and eat lunch, saw a few waterfalls, and crossed the Southern Alps via the Haast Pass.  It was an absolutely stunning drive!  We will bike around Wanaka today and move to our last set of accommodations in Arrowtown.  We can't believe how quickly the trip is winding down!  We are trying to take everything in before heading back to school next week!

Suspension Bridges Fun

Lookout point at Franz Josef Glacier

It was amazing to see the striations on the cliffs from where the glacier has retreated

Fox Glacier...known as a "dirty glacier" because of all of the rock slides and debris that covers the glacier.  We ran into a young guy who was a glacier guide- leading groups onto the actual glacier- from Chattanooga!  Small world!

If you look closely at the edge of the ice and rock you'll see a guide- gives some perspective to how massive this glacier is!

One of the many gorgeous stops along our drive

Hopefully we'll have some biking pictures tonight!!!  Your daughters are having a great trip!b
